Windhoek – 12.12.2019

Following-up on our successful renewable energy RENPOWER series in Sub-Saharan Africa, Euroconvention Global is pleased to announce its next event in the region: RENPOWER Southern Africa – The Renewable Energy, Off-Grid & Power Infrastructure Investors Conference.

Dates: 12 December 2019
City: Windhoek, Namibia

Attending: Key stakeholders including representatives from the government, International Finance Institutions (IFIs), policy makers, international and local developers, EPC contractors, independent power producers, engineering, legal and advisory services, manufacturers, banking and private equity entities.

RENPOWER Southern Africa investors 2019 will be the leading networking venue for key government decision makers and key stakeholders from the international market looking at the Southern African countries. This flagship event will be focusing on Namibia, Botswana and Zambia, which are countries that recently launched a series of tenders seeking qualified independent power producers (IPPs) for renewable energy projects.

The southern Africa nations of Namibia, Botswana and Zambia are looking to reduce their power dependence from neighboring countries to ensure electricity access to their population and reduce the chronic power shortages. The host country of RENPOWER Southern Africa Investors 2019, Namibia has announced a 220 MW power generation capacity from renewables, whereas neighboring Botswana is looking to award 100 MW of solar capacity. On the other hand, Zambia has a plan of deploying 500 MW of renewables in the next few years utilizing the framework of the Zambian REFiT Strategy. Some of the eligible renewables include solar PV, hydro, geothermal, biomass, waste energy and wind power. Universal electricity access is also a sensitive topic for these countries with a large rural population allowing for companies to provide solutions and new technologies to address issues of the off-grid areas by presenting new technologies such as mini-grids and Variable Renewable Energy (VRE) + Storage.

A strategic market design and growth is necessary to achieve the region’s potential to scale-up investment opportunities. The event will focus on current development in the three Southern Africa countries seeking to optimize their power generation – each of them will be individually visited highlighting government initiatives, regulatory and institutional framework, international cooperation, investment potential and funding strategies for the renewable energy sector.

The agenda, speaker line-up and registration form will be shared upon your written inquiry.
