  • Cameroon’s Energy Transition: Scaling Up Renewables
Cameroon is set to increase renewables to 42% of its energy mix by 2035, with 5 GW of solar potential and a target of 250 MW of solar capacity by 2030. While large-scale solar projects are being developed, the Agency for Rural Electrification (AER) is deploying decentralized off-grid solar solutions to bridge the gap for the 75% of rural communities still lacking electricity.
Hydropower remains a pillar of Cameroon’s energy mix, currently providing 60% of total electricity generation. The completion of the Nachtigal Hydropower Plant and the 500 MW Kikot-Mbébé project will inject new capacity into the grid, making hydropower a key enabler of Cameroon’s sustainable energy strategy.
  • Gabon’s Renewable Energy Ambitions
Gabon is leveraging its abundant natural resources to transition towards clean energy. Hydropower accounts for 50% of the country’s electricity supply, with projects like the Kinguélé Aval (35 MW) and Ngoulmendjim (83 MW) plants expanding capacity.
At the same time, solar power is emerging as a transformative force in Gabon’s energy mix. Initiatives like the Ayémé Plaine Solar Plant and the Total Eren Libreville Solar PV Park (50 MW) will significantly boost solar generation and pave the way for future hybrid solar-hydro energy systems.
The government is also focused on rural electrification—with 20% of the population living in remote areas, new solutions like off-grid solar projects and decentralized microgrids are being developed to ensure access to clean and reliable electricity nationwide.

RENPOWER CENTRAL AFRICA 2025 will provide the perfect platform to connect with key industry players across the entire value chain in one of the most promising markets in Central Africa for Solar PV, Hydropower and Energy Storage.
