Renpower Africa Energy Storage – Strengthening Energy Supply and Storage Deployment
We are happy to announce our first event in Africa for 2024 which will be dedicated to a key topic that is highly needed to discuss to continue driving the just-energy transition: RENPOWER Africa Energy Storage – Strengthening Energy Supply and Storage Deployment, which will be hosted in Cape Town, South Africa in January 2024.
Date: 24 and 25 of January 2024
Time: Day 1, 09:00 – 17:30; Day 2, 09:00 – 12:30
Venue: Double Tree by Hilton Cape Town Upper Eastside, South Africa (in-person)
Powering South Africa – as the country aims to achieve energy security for all as well as decrease the carbon emissions in its electricity supply, utility-scale renewable energy and battery storage public procurement of 22.9GW is planned from 2022 to 2030, according to the 2019 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP). To put into perspective, in 2023 there is an estimate of more than 13GW, includes 5GW of wind and 8.3GW of solar PV, of private sector-led projects with advanced development in the country.
Furthermore, The South African Renewable Energy Masterplan (SAREM) is expected to be finalized before the end of the year and is anticipated to be an industrial and inclusive development plan for the renewable energy and storage value chains by 2030. This has been an initiative by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE), in partnership with industry, experts, labour representatives and various governmental entities, joined together to power the progress of South Africa’s renewable energy value chain.
The program of RENPOWER Africa Energy Storage covers various key topics that involves the chain value of an energy storage project, from regulatory framework to how to develop a project, innovative technologies, creating a local battery supply market, green hydrogen, and financing mechanisms, amongst others. We will also spotlight other key markets in the African continent ready to deploy energy storage.
Join us to discover how Energy Storage Systems (ESS) offer a variety of solutions to continuing the integration of renewable energy onto the grid and driving the economic development by providing electivity access 24/7 !
