Renpower Zimbabwe – The 2nd Renewable Energy & Power Infrastructure Investors Conference

03 July 19
Harare

Harare – 03.07.2019

Following the success of our 2018 edition, Euroconvention Global is delighted to announce RENPOWER Zimbabwe 2019: The 2nd Renewable Energy & Power Infrastructure Investors Conference set to take place at the Meikles hotel in Harare on July 3.

This event, co-hosted with the Ministry of Energy & Power Development of Zimbabwe, will highlight new developments and investment potential in power infrastructure and renewable energy projects in the country. An increasing number of international market participants are eyeing opportunities available in this developing market. Attendees will be updated by local stakeholders, IFIs and other private sector experts on the current status and the further prospects.

Background:  The Government of Zimbabwe seeks to deepen electricity generation with a focus on solar and wind power generation as well as on biofuels. The Minister of Energy and Power Development, Dr. Joram Gumbo, is taking steps to speed up the process to enable an improved environment for renewable energy deployment. Implementing further an appropriate legislative framework –  to move from unsolicited procurement of renewable energy projects to a tender scheme –  is a priority.

The renewable energy sector in Zimbabwe is picking up thanks to the government support which, through The Electricity Act, allows the participation of private players. New regulations are still being drafted and both the renewable energy and the bio-fuel policies should be finalized. The rural electrification master-plan which was prepared needs to be materialized as well. Dealing with customs duty, interest rates, convertibility and currency issues are also on the agenda.

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) and the Research Council of Zimbabwe (RCZ) have recently invited researchers to investigate and revert with proposals on adding renewables to the national grid as well as to existing energy systems. It is also addressing micro-grids involving renewables and energy storage systems to be combined with solar, wind and biogas, alongside applications in agriculture and industry.
