RENPOWER WEST AFRICA 2026 – Côte d’Ivoire – the rise of an energy powerhouse

Date: 7 of May 2026
Time:  09:00 – 18:00 hrs
Venue: Abidjan, Ivory Coast (in-person)

Ivory Coast’s energy sector is underpinned by strong fundamentals: political stability, transparent regulatory framework, competitive fiscal environment and long-term investment prioritized by the government. The country is rapidly expanding its energy capacity to reach a 45% renewable energy mix by 2030, aiming a total capacity of 1,686 MW by 2040.

The current momentum is driven by the construction of 12 major solar PV plants – including those in Ferkessédougou, Bondoukou and Korhogo, and significant thermal power projects like the 372 MW Songon plant.

Key 2026 developments include the deployment of 600 MW in new solar, the expansion of the Baleine gas field, and the recent launch of the Green Energy Park Maroc-Côte d’Ivoire for solar research and technology.  Solar technology adoption in Côte d’Ivoire’s mining sector is accelerating rapidly, with 2026 serving as a key year for commissioning new, large-scale photovoltaic plants to power industrial operations and national grid improvements

Côte d’Ivoire is making rapid progress in rural electrification, leveraging PV microgrids and solar technologies to bridge the gap between grid extension and universal access. With a strong demand for decentralized solar in remote areas, off-grid PV microgrids and solar home systems are expected to be the primary method for providing energy access to the last-mile.

Gas-to-power is actively being developed and expanded in Côte d’Ivoire with major projects significantly increasing gas supply for power generation, and strengthening its position as a regional energy hub.

The country is also capitalizing on its hydro potential with plans to incorporate 17 new large hydroelectric projects and 12 mini-hydroelectric projects into its pipeline, reflecting a long-term commitment to the country significant hydro potential.

The program will highlight new developments, challenges and opportunities arising in 2026, and is spread over five main sessions:

  • Solar PV expansion –  Battery Energy Storage Systems developments –  Grid Stability
  • Extractive industry decarbonization – Hydropower insight
  • Natural gas major growth – Gas-to-Power development – Power systems decarbonizing
  • Access to Energy  –  Rural Electrification  –  C&I
  • Attracting Investments – Project Financing – Funding models
