Following a successful second edition, Euroconvention Global is pleased to announce: RENPOWER ANGOLA – The 3rd Renewable Energy, Off-Grid & Power Infrastructure Investors Conference.

Date: 04 June 2020
Venue: Luanda, Angola
Languages: Portuguese and English with simultaneous translation

Background: Continuing with the National Energy Security Strategy vision 2025, the Angolan government is seeking to awake the dormant solar sector by deploying several hundred megawatts worth of projects within three years. The ambitious solar-power rollout will be boosting photovoltaic capacity to 600 MW by 2022, up from the current installed capacity at about 14 MW, between isolated and hybrid solar energy systems.

Rather than attempting to connect rural areas to the national grid, the government is looking to invest in individual systems. The generation capacity would come from around 30,000 solar off-grid photovoltaic systems and distributed generation projects. For this, the government seeks for the private sector involvement.

The solar projects are part of the country’s new Plano de Desenvolvimento Nacional 2018-2022 development strategy. Moreover, under the Angola Energy 2025 strategy the country targets 800 MW capacity non-hydro clean energy generation capacity, including wind and biomass. Summing it all, Angola aims to provide electricity to 65% of its population by 2025, by having total generation capacity of around 10 GW. The 3.4 GW the nation currently has is composed of 2 GW of hydroelectric generation and 1.4 GW of thermal power plants.

The opportunity is on the rise for new renewable energy technologies and off-grid solutions to tap into the Angolan energy market.
