Botswana is turning corners as the government’s energy plans calls for a significant expansion on renewable energy generation, including a target of 8,000 MW of new renewable energy capacity by 2040. Ambitious goals, Great investment opportunities: The Government of Botswana has set bold renewable energy targets, 30% of the generation mix from renewables by 2030 and 50% by 2036, leveraging its abundant renewables resources – Solar, Wind – to shift away from coal and imported power. Currently, the country has awarded ~335 MW of renewable energy, mostly solar, and many large-scale renewable projects are under development – highlighting the 50 MW / 200 MWh BESS project that received funding from the World Bank.
