Lagos – 26 October 2022

Renpower Nigeria – the 2nd annual edition – The Path Forward to Green Energy Transition

Nigeria to install 600 MW of C&I solar in view of a 1 GW plan, as recently announced by the Lagos State and the World Bank. Isn’t that a promising signal at a time the country is seeking for renewable energy to contribute 30 % to the available energy mix by 2030. More Nigerians have embraced renewable energy in the course of first quarter 2022 said expert Sam Nwosu, Secretary General at the Council of Renewable Energy of Nigeria.

The prospects of clean energy leapfrogging at some point conventional sources are likely – particularly in light of rising diesel costs and also because of the increased market penetration of renewable energy solutions. Not to mention incessant blackouts that have made people, businesses and industries to start looking for alternatives This trend includes solar home systems, isolated and interconnected mini-grids, solar solutions for C&I customers, etc. With an estimated 85 million Nigerians (i.e. 43% of the country’s population) without access to grid electricity, the opportunities for developing clean power solutions and off-grid renewable in particular are big.

While the focus in Nigeria seems to be on solar, other renewable energy solutions like wind farms, off-grid hydroelectric power and biofuels will have a significant contributing role. And considerable progress has been made in identifying and exploring potential geothermal sites in the country as well. Investment in batteries, solar panels, inverters and other technologies is scaling up, featuring growing market opportunities for those companies providing innovative solutions and latest technology. Flexible financing options from commercial banks and other fund providers should keep backing to drive renewable investment in the country.

Featuring 25+ speakers and experts, the program is spread over 4 main sessions:

  • Towards clean energy leapfrogging conventional sources? Targeting 30 GW by 2030 with 30 % renewable
  • Powering Nigeria with wind, solar, thermal, hydro and biofuels – current development and prospect
  • Rural Electrification – Towards a sustainable and scalable off-grid electrification market
  • Driving investment into Nigeria’s transforming power sector and access to long-term financing

Attending: Key stakeholders including representatives from the government, International Finance Institutions (IFIs), policy makers, international and local developers, EPC contractors, independent power producers, engineering, legal and advisory services, manufacturers, banking and private equity entities.
